Continuing to quickly advance in the company, he became a Superintendent in 1986 and a Project Manager in 1989. Leaving H.E. Sargent in 1991, Herbert R. Sargent founded his own construction businesses, Sargent & Sargent in Hampden, Maine. In 2005, he established Sargent Corporation as the merger of Sargent & Sargent and H.E. Sargent. This merger increased his company’s annual revenues by 500%.

Highly engaged in his industry, Herbert R. Sargent is a past President of the Associated General Contractors of Maine and of the Maine Better Transportation Association. He currently serves on the boards of organizations such as the Maine Economic Research Institute, Citizens for Quality Education, the Maine Economic Research Institute, and the Maine Chamber of Commerce.
